The 'ECTS', (European Credit Transfer System), is an instrument with which the higher education programmes offered throughout Europe can be more easily compared. Throughout Europe therefore, a unified system for awarding 'Study Points' or 'Credits' is in place. Nearly all European nations are in the process of implementing the ECTS system. By September 2004, the universities in the Netherlands, including Fontys, should have implemented this system.
