Management Structure

• Board of Governors (7 representatives from society). Highest authority, responsible for principles, appointment of members of the Executive Board, ratification of important decisions, advice on important matters
• Executive Board (6 persons, appointed by the Board of Governors), general responsibility for the organisation and structure of Fontys, representation of the interests of the organisation. Operates with the Board of Governors and the Principals of the 37 Fontys schools on the basis of a Management Charter. With each school, each year, a Management Contract is drawn up, with agreements on certain objectives and results that have to be reached that year. During the year, Management Reports are prepared on the progress of the management contract, and discussed between the Principal and one of the members of the Executive Board. Each member of the Executive Board keeps in touch with certain schools (vertical portfolio) and each has several special tasks (horizontal portfolio), such as PR, Finances, Educational Development etc.
• The Executive Board is supported by an Advisory Board (2 general secretaries, 10 policy advisers, 4 financial controllers and 2 quality auditors).
• Principals of schools (35). Principals can operate independently within the boundaries of the yearly agreed budget and management contract. The principals meet with the Executive Board every month in the ‘Fontysberaad’ (Fontys Council).
• Participation Council (Medezeggenschapsraad - students and staff). There is a Participation Council at central level (Centrale Medezeggenschapsraad) and each school has a Participation Council (Instituutsraad). The Participation Council is involved in important decisions, either by the Executive Board (central decisions) or by the Principal (school decisions).

Support Unit

All support activities in Fontys are situated in one central unit: Fontys Facilitair Bedrijf (Support Unit).

The Managing Director of this Support Unit also operates on the basis of a Management Contract with the Executive Board.
