Venlo is a border town with no barriers or passport control. It is a town with an intercultural tradition, located centrally within Europe and easily accessible. Venlo is small enough ‘not to get lost’ but big enough for fun and action. Fontys Hogeschool Venlo is situated on the campus-like estate ‘De Wylderbeek’ near the banks of the river Meuse.
The city of Venlo also offers plenty of entertainment: theatres, cinemas, pubs and bars. Venlo offers you a historic shopping centre with international allure, a wide variety of shops combined with authentic bar, restaurants and pavement cafés. The many museums, theatres, cinemas and traditional events (such as three crazy days of carnival) make Venlo a regional entertainment centre.
Studying in Venlo is not ‘all work and no play’. This is why we also have an International Student Union that offers you the opportunity to meet other students. Should you decide to study in Venlo, you might want to consider living in Venlo, too. Venlo has plenty of accommodation to offer. Our International Office [link aanbrengen] is at your disposal to help you find suitable accommodation.
Culture
Venlo offerssomething for everyone: pleasant pubs, rock cafes and bars with live music. You can also really enjoy one of the pavement cafes during the summer. The inner person also has needs - and they can be met in many places. There is something for everyone: for every taste and in every price category! If you happen to be in Venlo in the spring, you should remember the real Limburg specialty: asparagus.
Recreation
Your studies will keep you busy, but should allow you at least some time to become acquainted with more than just your immediate surroundings. The surroundings of Venlo are ideal for walking and cycling. The Tourist Office in Venlo (VVV) sells maps of cycle and walking routes, taking you to the most picturesque spots. The VVV is also the place to buy admission tickets to pop concerts and obtain all sorts of tourist tips.
