naar begin"This is a public or shared computer"

This is the default setting for the log on page, for security reasons.
This setting places a
session cookie on the computer. Closing your browser, or even the tab, will delete the cookie.
Despite this we still advise to use the log off function of the website.
The disadvantage of a session cookie is that you do not experience a single sign on visit on our intranet.

Do you have a computer at home where more people log on to, each with their own computer account?
This is considered a
public computer, not a private computer.
Other examples of public computers are a kiosk computer, or a computer in an Internet café.

naar begin"This is a private computer"

Choosing this option will place a persistent cookie on your computer.
This makes sure you experience a single sign on visit to our intranet, without having to log on again.
This cookie, also, will not collect personal information, it only serves a more user friendly experience.

naar beginUse Log Off!

A persistent cookie only gets deleted from your computer if you use the lof off function of the web site.
Simply closing the browser, does not delete the cookie. Even restarting the computer will not delete the cookie.
The only possibility to delete the cookie, is using the log off function of the web site.

Should you not use this function, then a next user that logs on to the computer can gain access to your data, and even pose as you (identity theft).
Until the cookie expires due to age, which is 8 hours.
That is why a persistent cookie only gets placed on the computer if you explicitly choose the setting
This is a private computer.
